The Bauchi State Directorate of Fire Service rescued a total of 147 persons from various fire incidents across the state in the last one year.
Two people, however, lost their lives and property estimated at over N948.25m perished in fire incidents in the period under review.
These were contained in a report obtained by Northern City News in Gombe on Sunday.
The report, which covered between June 2018 and June 2019, indicated that one life was lost in October 2018, while the other death occurred in a fire incident in April 2019.
According to the report, the highest estimated property loss was recorded in March, with a value of N262m, while the least estimated loss was recorded in September 2018 with a value of N8.6m.
Property estimated at about N1.94m was saved within the period under review, while the number of distress calls received and responded to was put at 423.
Some of the affected properties were residential property, workshops, shops, hotels, filling stations, vehicles and markets, among others.
The Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Fire Service, Abubakar Bala, confirmed the figures in an interview with our correspondent.
He attributed the causes of most of the fire incidents to electrical faults, overloading of electrical appliances and uncontrolled bush burning, wrong electrical wirings, negligence in the handling of electrical appliances and misuse of gas cookers.
